England FA Looking To Rent Irish Fans To Send To Russia Instead Of English

LONDON, UK—The English FA has reportedly reached out quietly to various fan groups across the Republic of Ireland about the prospect of supporting England at this summer’s World Cup.

The move appears to be in response to Euro 2016 where many England fans were notoriously sent home after repeated clashes with police and rival supporters. Conversely, Irish fans charmed their way into the hearts of Europe with their playful antics and helpful ways.

As a result the English FA have acted early to avoid a repeat and have already reached an agreement with the Football Association of Ireland to rent Republic fans for the duration of the tournament. The proposed “Come back to the empire for 4 weeks,” campaign will begin with a social media blitz this week.

Over 500,000 Ireland fans will be sought, according to FA chairman Greg Clarke, who confirmed thousands of England flags emblazoned in Father Ted quotes have already been ordered. He claims unlimited supplies of Carling and Strongbow will also be provided.

“We know the Irish fans are disappointed to not cheer on their team but considering they’re already following what is essentially the England B Team, we’re confident they’ll jump at the chance to support the big boys.” – Greg Clarke.

While Clarke admitted he understood there may be some reluctance amongst Republic fans, he hopes the prospect of supporting a team guaranteed to win the World Cup will be enough to tempt the best fans in the world™.

On Twitter he tweeted his belief that “Ireland will join their celtic cousins – Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, in pulling on their white jerseys this summer. #COYBIW”.

*own English jersey not required as full England replica kit will be provided.
