With a Premier League record under his belt and Leicester City 2nd in the table, Jamie Vardy has “rewarded” Leicester City with a lucrative new 5-year-deal. Vardy says the new deal is a testament to his side’s “stunning start to the season”, that has seen the club top the table. “I’m thrilled for everyone at the club,” Vardy told FM News. “Signing for me is what this great club deserves and I’m looking forward to continuing my stunning goal-scoring run with them by my side.”
The England international had been linked with several clubs including Manchester United and Liverpool, but the 28-year-old feels Leicester is a club that can develop further. “I really think with Leicester playing for me, the club has the potential to become a top, top side.”
Vardy became the first player to score in 11 consecutive Premier League games breaking Van Nistelrooy’s record against Man Utd. Leicester manager Claudio Ranieri was understandably overjoyed at the announcement, saying, “there is only one player for a club like us. We’re thrilled to be a small part of Mr Vardy’s success and as an added bonus the club is proud of it’s own run to 2nd in the Premier League.”
Riyad Mahrez’s own brilliant form has been somewhat overshadowed by Vardy’s headline-grabbing success, but the 24-year-old Algerian spoke glowingly of his teammate’s achievements. “No I’m not jealous at all, I’m thrilled for my friend, James. His great scoring run is bringing attention to the whole side, and in fairness, who are top four sides going to be interested in? The next James Beattie or the next Eden Hazard? Every goal he scores just adds another million to my price tag.”
