Filming for the live action remake of the Disney/Pixar classic Ratatouille has ended in tragedy in Vancouver today, as the movie’s star was found dead in a soup bowl.
Despite paramedics best efforts, the rat playing the titular character Lemy was pronounced dead at 3:04 pm on Thursday.
“French-Canadian actor Paul Derat, starring in his 17th major motion picture, was tragically found dead in a large clam chowder this afternoon,” read a statement released by Walt Disney Pictures. “Mr. Derat was survived by his partner Sam and their 5,000 children. May he rest in peace.”
At this stage it remains unclear if producers were aware of Mr. Derat’s dangerous allergies to both clams and being boiled alive at 100°C.

The restaurant owner has further apologized for serving clam chowder at the rat’s funeral, “it was in poor taste,” he admitted.
