Participants in the traditional “Running of the Bulls” in Spain floated the idea that continues the exhilarating reckless endangerment a bit further with the suggestion of a new event: “Running of the Bullets.”

A spokesman (who was referred to only as “Pepe”) for the group, speaking from a hospital bed, said that the idea came from a cartoon he saw where a bull shooting a gun at a cartoon rabbit. He suggested that the “runners” would be shot at while traveling through the streets of the city. He continued “Boy that was one good cartoon. And that rabbit was really funny. I don’t think we have any participants right now that are as funny as that rabbit. Maybe we could get a local comedian to help us, maybe one that looks kind of like a rabbit.” He added “Of course, the event won’t be just humorous. There would be an element of seriousness too.”

Animal rights activists were swift in demanding that “the bulls not be involved at all in the firing of any guns.” They were quickly reassured by the spokesman because, after all, “A bull firing any type of gun is just silly, and probably isn’t even possible, though I’m not sure about that. Still, I don’t think that cartoon was a documentary in any way.”

The animal rights activists were also concerned that a bull could face “substantial trauma” if forced to fire a weapon of any type. They also stated that they plan to boycott the cartoon and sent a strongly worded letter to the Spanish government that included words that were underlined. When asked whether he thought that shooting at people running down the street would cause too many casualties and ruin the enjoyment of the event, the spokesman hastened to say that the guns would only shoot rubber bullets, not the real thing. He strongly added “Geez, we’re not crazy!”
