MANCHESTER, UK—With just hours remaining of the 2020 summer transfer window, Manchester United have launched a last minute bid to re-sign Marouane Fellaini, according to Sky China sources.

“The midfielder has emerged as a shock transfer target for United and will provide competition for Bruno, Pogba, Van Der Beek, Fred, McTominay, Matic and Lingard.

The size of the reported transfer fee is noteworthy, given that Fellaini was offered to clubs for free over the summer but recieved no offers. Now, United have beaten off stiff competition from themselves in 3 months time to sign the 33-year old for a reported £30 million.

Woodward denies the move is a last-minute panic buy, insisting the Belgian has always been the club’s number 1 transfer target.

“We’ve been tracking the player ever since he joined Shandong Luneng Taishan 18 months ago and I’m sure Ole and the fans will be as thrilled as I am to have convinced him so sign for the club.”

Woodward was effusive in his praise of Fellaini: “He’s a midfielder who will consider signing for us if we pay him enough. He ticks all the right boxes.”

The former Everton midfielder is also expected to double his current £200,000-per-week wages, bringing him in line with United stars Pogba and De Gea but still significantly lower than United’s top earners Avram Glazer, Joel Glazer, Ed Woodward, Richard Arnold, Bryan Glazer, Kevin Glazer, Edward Glazer and Malcolm Glazer’s corpse.
