In the aftermath of the Rep. of Ireland’s historic win over World Champions Germany, Jack Grealish has reached out to Martin O’Neill to discuss a return to the Ireland setup.
The 20-year-old reportedly called O’Neill after the win and asked if it was too late to change his mind. O’Neill speaking to RTE said: “Jack called to congratulate me and the lads after the game. He was crying and very emotional. He asked if it was too late to come back. I told him to go fuck himself. Probably should have done that a long time ago.”
Grealish defended his perceived flip-flopping between the two nations: “Yes I did ask Martin to take me back, but in my defense I had been drinking,” Grealish told the Daily Mail. “It was a moment of weakness. I saw Long’s goal and it brought out something in me. It won’t happen again, I swear. Long live our Queen.”
On twitter, a remorseful Grealish tweeted the English FA directly, saying: “It’s not how it looks. I was drunk and lonely. It was a mistake. I love England and only England. Ireland meant nothing to me. I hope you understand. COYBIW.”
